Scirocco has five tabs: Home with the map, Navigation with the compass, Waypoints with your saved points, Boat with vessels and engines, and Settings.

You can save up to 20 waypoints and use navigation without limits: compass, route, trip recording, statistics, shareable card and GPX export. You do not need a subscription to navigate.

Unlimited waypoints, boats with engines and fuel calculation, scheduled maintenance with reminders, insurance policies with expiry dates, boat documents with export and import, and automatic iCloud backup. The marine forecast and personal documents are free. There are two plans: weekly at €3.99 with a 3-day free trial and yearly at €29.99 with a 7-day free trial.

Open Settings and tap "Restore purchases": your subscription is read back from your Apple Account. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.

Subscriptions are handled by iOS: iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Scirocco → Cancel subscription. It stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.

In the Waypoints tab tap + → "Enter coordinates". With "Paste" you can drop in the text as it is: Scirocco reads decimal degrees (40.856194), degrees and minutes (40° 51.371' N), degrees and thousandths of a minute, degrees minutes seconds with and without symbols (40° 51' 22.3" N or 40 51 22.3 N), strings with the direction first (N 40 51.371), NMEA format, and Google Maps and Apple Maps links. Paste a text holding several coordinates and it finds them all at once. There are also manual DMS and Decimal fields.

In the Waypoints tab tap + → "Import GPX file". You can pick several files at once; before saving you get a preview and choose which points and tracks to import.

Yes. Waypoints → + → "Scan image", then pick an image from your photo library. Scirocco reads the text and offers the coordinates it finds, across the same range of formats as pasting.

Yes. From WhatsApp, Messages, Notes, Safari or your gallery use Share and pick Scirocco: "Import into Scirocco" opens with the coordinates found in the text, the link or the images (up to 5), and you choose which ones to save.

Tap + at the bottom of the map. Scirocco switches the GPS to high precision and spends up to 12 seconds chasing a fix within 3 metres, showing the accuracy it reaches. If the signal stays weak it asks whether to save anyway or try again.

Press and hold on the map where you want it: the new waypoint sheet opens with those coordinates already filled in, and you can correct them by hand before saving.

Name, coordinates, an icon out of 18, notes and the depth in metres. You can also file it in a folder and mark it as a favourite.

Create one from the + menu in the Waypoints tab. You can then move points into it from the context menu or in multiple selection, and rename or delete the folder from the list.

Press and hold a waypoint and choose "Add to favourites". Favourites stay at the top of the list whichever sort order you pick, and there is a filter to show only those.

Yes, from the sort icon in the list: newest, oldest, name A→Z, name Z→A and distance from your position.

From the + menu in the list choose "Export all (GPX)". A single point is exported or shared from its context menu, which also holds "Copy coordinates".

In the Navigation tab tap "Start navigation" and pick one of three ways: to a saved waypoint, to a place searched by name, or free navigation with no destination. The "Stop" button ends the trip.

The place becomes a temporary point: it does not go into your list and does not take up one of the 20 slots in the free plan. It is removed on its own when you change destination or end the trip.

Scirocco taps you as you close in on the destination, at 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 metres, each one firmer than the last, and a double signal on arrival. So you know where you are without looking at the screen.

When there is land between you and the destination, Scirocco says so and lets you choose between the route that goes around the coast and the straight line. With no land in the way, the question never appears.

Yes. As soon as you pick a destination a Live Activity starts: the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island show the point name, distance, speed, ETA and the course correction, updating even with the phone locked.

Yes, with phrases like "Scirocco route to <waypoint name>" or "Scirocco waypoint <name>". The app opens already heading for that point.

If you turned on "Wind names while navigating" in Settings, the compass shows the Mediterranean wind name for the direction you are facing: Tramontana, Grecale, Levante, Scirocco, Ostro, Libeccio, Ponente, Maestrale.

Yes, with the ruler icon on the map. Tap points one after another to build the path: tap a waypoint and the measurement snaps to it and shows its name, and the distance accounts for the coast it has to go around. You can undo the last point or clear the lot.

Settings → Distance unit lets you pick nautical miles, kilometres or statute miles. Speeds are always in knots.

Yes: every navigation you start is recorded from beginning to end, in the background and with the screen off. You find them in Settings → "Trip list".

Yes, with the "Recording interval" slider in Settings, from 1 to 30 seconds (5 by default). Short intervals give a more precise path and use more battery; for long crossings 15-30 seconds is plenty.

No. On reopening, Scirocco tells you when the trip started and how many points it had recorded, and lets you choose: "Resume" carries on with the timer running from the real start time, "Close and save" files it with the points collected so far.

Start, end, duration, distance, recorded points, average speed and top speed, plus the path drawn on the map. From the detail view you can also measure a single leg of the path.

Yes. When you stop, the summary offers a vertical card ready for social: keep the map as the background or drop in one of your own photos, with the shape of the path over it. If you have Instagram there is a button to post it straight to Stories. The same card is available from the detail view of any saved trip.

Yes, from the detail view with "Export GPX": the file opens in any other navigation or analysis software.

Yes, with the "Show trips on map" switch in Settings.

Yes, as many as you like. One is the primary boat: that is the one used for fuel and range figures while navigating, and you switch it from the boat's own page.

Name, builder, model, type (RIB, small craft, motorboat, sailboat, catamaran or other), length in metres or feet, registration number, home port, flag and a photo. Creating one takes two steps: the boat first, then the engines.

A boat can carry several engines, and more than one can be active at a time. For each you record brand, model, horsepower, serial number, type (outboard, inboard, sterndrive), fuel (petrol or diesel), cruise consumption and cruise speed, tank capacity, current level and running hours.

Not necessarily: Scirocco ships 105 preset engines from Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury, Honda, Tohatsu, Selva, Mercruiser, Volvo Penta, Yanmar and Nanni, with cruise consumption and speed already filled in. You can still correct them or enter an engine from scratch.

From the boat's page open "Maintenance" and tap +. Choose whether the job is on the boat or on an engine, pick the items from the list (or write your own) and fill in date, engine hours and notes.

For the boat: antifouling, hull polishing, fibreglass repair, canopy replacement, electrical overhaul, plumbing overhaul, battery replacement, deck painting, upholstery replacement, winter storage. For the engine: oil change, oil filter, spark plugs, impeller, timing belt, anodes, full service, propeller replacement, carburettor overhaul, painting or antifouling, winterisation. Both lists end with "Other" for anything outside them.

Yes: while creating the job turn on "Scheduled (future)" and set the planned date. It sits in the Scheduled section, flagged as due soon or overdue, and you tick it off as completed once done.

Yes. If the hours you enter on a job are higher than the ones recorded on the engine, the engine counter is brought up to date.

For each policy you record company, number, amount, phone, expiry date and notes, and attach as many photos and PDFs as you want. A policy can cover the boat or a single engine.

No: attach the photo or the PDF and Scirocco reads it, filling in on its own whichever of company, policy number, expiry date, amount and phone it can make out. A note tells you what it picked up, and you can always correct it.

Yes. Scirocco sends a notification 7 days before and one the day before, both for a policy expiry and for scheduled maintenance.

For the boat: navigation licence, safety certificate, RINA certificate, title deed, tax, periodic survey, naval register, IMO certificate and other. For the engine: power declaration, type-approval certificate, manual and other. Each document can be a photo or a PDF.

Scirocco starts from the cruise consumption and cruise speed of the active engines on the primary boat and estimates the litres needed to reach the destination. If you are running slower or faster than cruise, the estimate follows your real speed.

Settings → Fuel price, with separate values for petrol and diesel. They are used to estimate what the current trip is costing you.

While navigating, Scirocco compares the fuel you have on board with the fuel needed to get there. Past 70% it warns you, past 100% the warning turns critical.

On the engine's page, in the tank capacity and current level fields. Update them before heading out to get figures you can trust.

In the boat list swipe on the boat and choose "Export", or "Export all" from the top menu. You get a .scirocco file holding the boat details, engines, documents, policies and maintenance, to save in Files, send over AirDrop or share.

From the boat list choose "Import .scirocco file". The boat is recreated with everything attached to it, and if one already exists with the same name and registration the app tells you.

In Settings turn on "iCloud sync" and restart the app. Waypoints, folders, trips, boats, engines, maintenance, policies and documents travel between every device on the same Apple Account. The row under the switch shows the sync status. Requires Scirocco Pro.
